Study of cervical cytology in pap smears in a tertiary care hospital of North Maharashtra

Background: Cervical cancer is the fourth leading cause of death in females worldwide. In India cervical morbidity and mortality. Cancer cervix preventable, can be diagnosed at pre-malignant stage with adequate repetitive cytological screening by Papanicolaou (Pap) smears. Aim this study was to role Pap smear detecting premalignant malignant lesions as well non-neoplastic cervix. Methods: It a retrospective 240 pap smears studied from January 2022 June received pathology department tertiary care hospital north Maharashtra. Samples are collected women between 21 65 years presenting some gynecological problems. Smears were reported per 2014 Bethesda system. Results: Out women, 216 having normal cytology 146 cases inflammatory changes. 10 unsatisfactory. 5 ASCUS, 1 case SCC, 2 HSIL 6 LSIL observed. Conclusions: test simple, safe, noninvasive, economical OPD based procedure detect pervasive epithelial lesions. Every woman should undergo least once her life before age 45 years.
